LINCOLN MEMORIAL

Go Back

This project was based around the renovation of the existing north and south pedestrian walkways to create an accessible route from the lower plaza to the upper plaza area and visitors center entrance. The existing granite pavers and setting bed were removed and the existing stone was salvaged for reinstallation. Install a new setting bed and reinstall the existing granite pavers to match the proposed grades indicated in the drawings. PWC and its subcontractor had to carefully remove the existing, historic pavers leading up to the memorial. Once removed and catalogued, each stone section was cleaned, washed and repaired as needed. The next steps were to re-install mortar and sand setting beds at the appropriate levels to achieve ADA compliance. Finally, the stone pavers were re-installed at new elevations and all the joints were sealed/caulked. New pavers were procured and installed on top of new floating concrete slabs at the base of the walkways, where trench drains were previously installed.
